Established by the Nordic Council of Ministers in 1995, NIKK is a transnational resource- and information centre on gender research and gender equality in the Nordic countries. NIKK is currently located at the University of Oslo in Norway. NIKK employs research coordinators, researchers, information advisors and administrative personnel - a total staff of 6 from four of the Nordic countries.
Activities and aims
NIKK constitutes a bridge between Nordic gender research and equality politics.
NIKK co-operates closely with Nordic Ministers for Co-operation on Gender Equality and Nordic Executive Committee on Gender Equality.
NIKK aims at ensuring a dynamic, active, and well-founded joint Nordic gender equality politics in collaboration with the respective Nordic presidency.
NIKK contributes to the implementation of the Nordic cooperation programme on gender equality 2011 - 2014:Gender equality creates sustainable societies
NIKK's activities are divided into two areas:
Projects:
NIKK initiates, co-ordinates, and executes projects that focus on central gender equality issues, i.e. research and development, statements, surveys, and reports. See a list of NIKK's current and previous projects
Research communication and information:
NIKK disseminates gender research results and gender equality policies primarily through www.nikk.no and NIKK magasin. In addition NIKK serves as a platform for general information. The staff at NIKK is available for expert assignments and lectures.
NIKK cooperates with local and national research centres, associations, information and documentation centres as well as with gender equality units in the Nordic countries.
