Gender Equality and Quality of Life. A Norwegian Perspective (2009)
In order to find out more about men, women and gender equality, a representative survey was made in Norway in 2007, which was more detailed and comprehensive than earlier survey research. The report describes the results of the survey – the changing, uneven and partially conflicting gender equality developments among men and women today. The survey has a sample of 2,805 women and men, who answered a questionnaire with 350 questions and statements on gender equality in spring 2007. The study was financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Children and Equality and carried out by NIKK in co-operation with the Work Research Institute (WRI). The team was led by Øystein Gullvåg Holter, NIKK, and included Helge Svare and Cathrine Egeland, WRI.

The aim, however, varies, as do the methods. Should incentives or punishment be used? In this issue of NIKK magasin we present the Norwegian government’s work on the world’s first proposition concerning men and gender equality.

NIKK magasin no 3/2003: The Power of Gender
This issue presents the first comparative analyses of several gender and power studies done in Norway and Denmark. The studies form part of the government-initiated power and democracy studies concluded in both countries this autumn. The radical changes in the Norwegian parental leave system is the subject of another article which presents a newly concluded gender study focusing on the fathers' quota.

NIKK magasin no 3/2002: Quotas and Controversies
One issue taken up in NIKK magasin 3/2003 is the question of gender quotas and how this has been used as a mean to achieve gender equality in the Nordic countries. Two arguments exist for the implementation of gender quotas in this region: one is related to the principle of gender balance, the other to the principle of utility.
