NIKK researchers involved in a European research project on gendered citizenship

What role have women′s movements played in transforming European societies and European culture since the 1960′s? How have they impacted upon our involvement in politics and civil society? and How are gender issues re-shaping the meaning of citizenship in and increasingly multicultural Europe? The research project FEMCIT will provide the answers.

FEMCIT will explore the relationship between the changing forms and practices of gendered citizenship in a multicultural Europe, and the demands and practices which have emerged from contemporary women’s movements.

The ambitious research project aims to provide policy makers, decision makers, social actors, and the academic community with evidence and analysis of the complex dynamics of gendered citizeship in a multicultural context.

NIKK's Director Dr. Solveig Bergman is responsible for Work Package 2: Social citizenship: The impact of gender-based organising and claim making on child care and parental-leave policies in a multicultural Europe.

FEMCIT is a research project funded under the Sixth Framework of the European Commission. The project duration is from February 1st, 2007 until January 31st, 2011.
