The heat is on – Gender and Climate change in North and South

Debate with Norwegian author Åsne Seierstad about climate change warming up in the prelude of COP 15. The Nordic Council of Ministers and Nordic Region in Focus organize a dynamic panel discussion on Dec. 4th where we focus on the fact that global climate changes are affecting men and women differently around the world.

Åsne Sierstad

Arctic men and women in developing countries are – in many ways – two distinctly different groups. But they have one thing in common: They are the first victims of climate change and they face its consequences already today in their daily lives. Drought, floods and storms in the south and melting ice in the north make living conditions harsher every day for these people. They depend on nature for their survival and are often responsible for providing food for the whole family.

The panel will debate with the audience on what concrete steps are necessary to deal with the consequences of climate change for the vulnerable groups in North and South.
