The research project "Gender and Power in the Nordic Countries"

The relationship between gender and power is one of the main themes in the gender equality work at the Nordic Council of Ministers during the period 2006–2010. The Nordic Gender Equality Ministers have therefore decided to carry out a project on gender and power in the Nordic countries.

The project is being realised by NIKK and a broad-based Nordic research group in 2008–2009. Its aims are to identify the greatest challenges pertaining to gender equality in the central decision-making arenas of the Nordic countries today; to create knowledge about the background to variations, barriers and opportunities in various arenas; and to illuminate measures for reducing an imbalanced distribution of power. The research project is managed by Research Director at NIKK Kirsti Niskanen.

The results from the research project wil be presented at a Nordic conference in Reykjavik 18-19 November 2009.
